Speed Detection

What is it?

Vehicle speed control is one of the main concerns for agencies dedicated to road safety. There are several factors that affect the number of accidents and deaths on the roads, but there's no doubt that speed is one of the main causes. For that reason, the importance of controlling speed in order to save lives and goods.

There are several approaches to the detection and control of vehicle speed. Fixed, mobile or sectional radars are used in the world (link to section radar). There are also very novel ones such as the helicopter mobile radar. At Neural Labs we have developed speed detection analytics based on artificial vision, using our license plate recognition technology (LPR or ANPR).

How does it work?

Neural Server allows this functionality for both cameras with GigaEthernet protocols and ONVIF cameras (streaming via RTSP).

By means of a previous 3D calibration within the software configuration, some parameters of reality are defined within the scene observed by the camera. This way, the application studies the time of translation of the license plates and with this data, calculates the speed of each vehicle.

This speed calculation approach using a single camera developed by Neural Labs, is very effective with an error rate under 5%.

In this way, the speed data is associated with each license plate detected within the Neural Server suite. This allows to consult or export license plates exceeding the maximum speed, detected within a time span.

It is also possible to configure Neural Server to automatically generate sanction proposals for all those license plates that exceeded the speed limit, allowing an operator to reject or accept and export the proposals to infraction ticket management systems.
