Success story: License plate recognition for time control at Cervecería y Maltería Quilmes

Cervecería y Maltería Quilmes, was founded in 1890 by Otto Bemberg. Nowadays is one of the sector's leader companies in the country. With 130 years' history in Argentina it invests on agroindustry development throughout the country. It produces, elaborates, distributes and commercializes beers, sodas, mineral water, juices and isotonic drinks, in alliance with international leader companies like Pepsico and Nestlé.

THE SOLUTION

In pursuit of operative excellency, Cervecería y Maltería Quilmes decided to incorporate artificial intelligence to its logistic trucks control at the plant in many Head offices throughout the Argentinian Republic like Tucamán, Corrientes, Mendoza, Córdoba, Buenos Aires, for example.

Because a large proportion of the truck fleet that enter the plants is property of third-party companies, using RFID identification for the trucks was impossible. Because of that, AI license plate recognition technology was selected. During an exhaustive selection process several providers were tested, finally choosing Neural Labs' technology because of its efficacy, versatility, scalability options and experience at the Latin American market. 

The system allows to have a total control of the plants traffic, directing the trucks traffic according to a schedule, detecting dwell, load and unload times to, finally, feed new KPIs that make it possible to monitor in real time the whole logistics process.

Arches with cameras have been strategically set inside the plants to control the trucks during all the logistics stages: entries, platform access, accesses between warehouses and exits. Each plant has its own server that hosts the Neural Server solution. Neural Server offers precisions above 98% and reports all the readings to the global management of the company in Brazil.
